Supporting the likes of Yonaka, Fickle Friends and now Demob Happy, Reading five-piece Valeras are kicking up a storm with their scuzzy guitar riffs, infectious melodies and blistering stage presence. With a huge list of shows and festivals on the way, the band are destined for glory and follow in the footsteps of friends and local legends The Amazons and Sundara Karma. We caught up with the indie rockers for a quick chat backstage.

Hey Valeras, so how’s your year been so far?

Valeras: Busy! Things have started to pick up a lot. We’ve been playing a lot of shows. We recently supported Fickle Friends, we’re now supporting Demob Happy and we recently released our new single Louder.

How do you find being on the road?

Valeras: It can be draining but we love it. To be able to play as many shows as possible and to do it a few nights in a row is really incredible.

Being from Reading, how do you feel about current music scene with current bands like The Amazons and Sundara Karma going on to huge success.

Valeras: Yeah, it’s really cool, we watched the scene grow. It was like everyone was friends and just playing shows together and then everyone started doing their own thing and now Sundara Karma and The Amazons are a massive deal which is amazing to see. For us to watch them at The Purple Turtle to now headlining some crazy venues is really inspiring.

Is there any records that you never get tired of listening to?

Valeras: So many! Tame Impala’s Innerspeaker, Led Zeppelin II, Songs of Her’s by Her’s and Blood by Lianne La Havas.
